One of the best known and the most astounding coincidences
in the Titanic legend (and probably in all literature)
is the novella Futility, by the American Author
Morgan Robertson published in 1898
(fourteen years before the actual Titanic disaster).
Robertson, whom many thought had psychic powers,
describes a ship that is the "largest craft afloat and
the greatest works of men." it is an "unsinkable" 800-foot-long
transatlantic ocean liner with 19 watertight compartments and
too few lifeboats. It sets sail on it's maiden
voyage in April, meeting its subsequent end through collision
with an iceberg. The names of the ships complete the aura of incredibility:
The fictional 1898 ship was named Titan; the liner of 1912, Titanic.
